Children
and adults have different views on what makes a children’s book good
If
a child isn’t motivated to finish the book then none of the content that was in
the text matters to begin with.
If
you have a child’s attention why not put it to good use with having the child think,
challenge them
When
a book makes a child see the world in a new way that is success.
The
important thing isn’t why the child is reading…it is that they are reading.
K:
I know that it is important for every child to read, no matter what the book
actually is. Reading is reading and it is important.
W:
I learned that there are different criteria and approaches of determining what makes
a children’s book “good.” I didn’t think about the difficulties that a children’s
author must have because they have to think of keeping a child engaged but also
teaching them something as well. That is a very big task for someone to take
on.
L:
I realized that when I read in order to prepare for my future role as a
librarian that I need to focus on what makes each novel so great. Paying attention
to the details like what was the message, what was the content etc. would help
me in guiding my students to select books in the future.
S:
I will share this information in my own classroom or library with my students.
